YWAM SkillsCentre, global network, equipped for work, life and purpose

YWAM SkillsCentre

Equipping People.
Transforming Communities.

A growing network of locally rooted skills training centres.

01 / Our purpose

Our Vision

We dream of communities where people are equipped with practical skills, free to discover what they’re made for, and able to contribute to their families, their neighbourhoods and their nations.

We believe everyone has something valuable to give. When people get the chance to learn, grow and put their skills to work, lives change, families flourish, and communities become places of hope and productivity.

02 / Skills for life

What We Do

Many people never get a real opportunity to learn a trade. YWAM SkillsCentres exist to change that, by making practical vocational training within reach of those who’d otherwise be left out.

We don’t stop at skills. Training goes hand in hand with character, values, entrepreneurship and a heart to serve, because a productive life is more than a job. It’s a life of fulfilment, spiritually, mentally, socially, emotionally and physically.

So we seek to:

  • Equip people with practical skills that employers and customers need.
  • Back local leaders as they build training that fits their own community.
  • Encourage entrepreneurship and pathways to a sustainable livelihood.
  • Connect centres and pioneers, so they can share experience, resources and encouragement.
  • Strengthen communities through locally led initiatives that answer real needs.

Our Christian faith is what drives us. Every person is made in God’s image, with God-given dignity, worth and potential. Work, too, is worship (the Hebrew word avodah holds both together), and we want to honour that in every trade we teach.

03 / Walking together

One Vision,
Many Local Expressions

Does every community need the same training centre? We don’t think so.

A SkillsCentre in an urban neighbourhood will face different challenges and see different opportunities than one in a rural village. Some will focus on trades, others on technology, agriculture, services or entrepreneurship. And that’s exactly as it should be.

What connects us is a shared commitment: to equip people, to strengthen local ownership, and to contribute to the wellbeing of our communities.

Each centre is encouraged to grow out of its own context and leadership, while drawing on friendships with others who carry the same vision. We’d rather walk together than go alone.

04 / Rooted in Worcester

Our Story

It began in Worcester, South Africa, in the community development work of Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Worcester.

In 2014 we started vocational training in response to a very real need: practical skills for people facing unemployment and economic hardship. Over the years that grew into a dedicated training centre, offering courses such as welding, woodworking, sewing, computer skills, office administration and caregiving.

You might know it as Skills4All Development Centre. In 2026 the Worcester initiative began its rebranding to the YWAM SkillsCentre name.

Today, what we’ve learned in Worcester (including from our mistakes) is helping inspire and support people who want to start something similar elsewhere in Africa.

We’re not building a centrally controlled organisation. Our desire is a growing network of locally led SkillsCentres that learn from one another, share resources, and work together towards lasting community transformation. Think of an orchestra rather than a one-man band: every player contributes, and the music is richer for it.
